The Lord Uses the Willing

My wife and I were recently doing our devotional prayer in the middle of the week. I was burdened talking to the Lord about the chronic illnesses and injuries that I’ve had off and on for such a long time spanning close to seven years. I was repeating scripture the Lord, • Matthew 9:37-38 (and parallel in Luke 10:2) explicitly states the harvest is plentiful but workers are few, prompting prayer for more laborers.

“The fields are ripe unto harvest, who will work in my fields and I prayed to the Lord saying “Lord, I will work in your fields. Search my heart, you know I will”. And I also said to the Lord “being sick and sitting here on this couch, I’m not able to do that. Nobody’s gonna come and knock on my door and ask me about being saved. I gotta get out there. Would you please give me my health back so that I can serve you in your fields?” I asked the Lord earnestly looking for a real answer. Well, about a half hour after breakfast I looked out the window and saw a young man (we will call him Dan in lieu of his real name) walking up the driveway which is two tenths of a mile long. To me it looked strange as there aren’t many people that walk up our driveway, so I thought something might be up. I stepped out onto the lawn and said “can I help you?” His reply was “Well, I am here representing my company, letting people know how we can help with extermination of rodents, bees and even woodpeckers, that get into the wood siding of homes.” I took his information and we eventually struck up a conversation. Those of you who know me, know that it doesn’t take long for me to start talking about the Lord. And in that conversation he stated that he had been talking to some of his friends over the past few weeks about religion. Some of them are atheist, some agnostics, and some Christian, he wanted to know who Jesus is. So I said “what kind of questions do you have?” We went through his questions, one at a time, and as he had more questions, the Lord brought to my mind the scriptures to give answers. The more we spoke, the more the Holy Spirit guided. Unbelief was one of his questions. I shared that scripture says we accept Christ through faith just as a child, innocent. We discussed what faith is, and I explained that Jesus Christ the son of God came to us when we could not get to him. I shared Romans 3:23; For we all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God. Romans Road. We discussed the plan of salvation and the ramifications. And that God gives us the choice to pay our sin debt ourselves, which means eternal torment and separation from God….or we accept Gods forgiveness, repent of our sins, ask Christ to come into our heart, and wash away our sins with His shed blood, and ask the holy spirit come into our clean heart, dwell with us and be our Lord and we are His Children. Dan did follow in the sinners prayer, Right there in the front yard of the house Dan accepted Jesus Christ into his heart! Dan said, “I feel strange inside, he pondered, kinda real light and as Dan pondered, I said, “Dan, you are experiencing forgiveness. All your sins have been washed away.” We just stood and soaked it in. I explained about getting in a bible believing church, that he needed to be mentored to grow in faith as a child grow in the flesh. We agreed to talk more later about his companies services.

And as I walked back into the house, I just stopped there and my jaw dropped, in a good way. I thought on the devotional prayer early that morning. God did send someone to my door to share the salvation message with. Praise God, also I have been healthy since-that day.

Dan did come back, and Jeff, our son-in-law and daughter Annie gave him a study bible, and I gave him a few of C.S.Lewis’s books and other booklets to help a newborn believer, as well as a list of churches in his area to contact and attend.

God is good, all the time!!!

And He can still use us no matter where we are or what condition we are in!
